China export silver ox bone Scrimshaw panel bracelet
Incredible example of Chinese scrimshaw artistry, cca 1930s. Links measure 1 1/8 inches by 1 ¼ inches by 5/16 inches and consist of intricate filigree frames which hold the 13/16 inches by ½ inch scrimshaw panels. Bracelet is silver filled. One of the panels needs to be readjusted in its frame, it is secure just not sitting straight. The push in clasp needs to be repaired since it is not holding well anymore, but we believe this would be a well deserved repair for such an exquisite old piece of jewelry. We prefer to leave the alteration up to the buyer and therefore not affect the authenticity of the piece. The scrimshaw is very fine and done in colorful inks and panels are intact. The push in clasp is marked CHINA.
